Petrol prices in Pakistan are likely to witness a massive hike from April 1, 2024, as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has proposed a carbon tax along with a new general sales tax (GST).
According to reports, the price of petrol may witness an increase of Rs. 10 to Rs. 20 per litre after the implementation of these taxes, which may take the price over Rs. 300 per litre.
It is pertinent to mention that the federal government had maintained the price of petrol and reduced the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs. 1.77 per litre.
Current petrol prices in Pakistan
- Petrol price is Rs. 279.75 per litre
- Diesel price is Rs. 285.56 per litre
The final decision regarding revision of petrol prices will be taken by the Finance Minister after consultation with the Prime Minister. The new prices will be announced by mid-night on March 31, 2024.
