Microsoft is introducing Copilot, an AI-powered plug-in for its Photos app, signaling a move towards smarter photo management. Although still in early stages, Copilot shows potential for enhancing the photo experience.
The news was shared by @PhantomOfEarth, a Windows enthusiast. Users with the latest version of the Photos app (2024.11030.22001.0) may notice a new option in plug-in settings – a toggle for Copilot. However, not all Windows users may have access to this update yet.
Currently, Copilot offers limited functionalities. It enables users to create and browse photo slideshows seamlessly within the Photos app, allowing them to relive memories. Users can also easily set any photo as their desktop background.
Despite appearing basic, Copilot’s potential for growth is promising. Microsoft has been progressively enhancing the Photos app with AI features. Windows Insiders gained access to AI-powered features in November 2023, including background removal magic for creative edits. The slideshow experience was also improved, with upgrades to the Filmstrip slideshow mode and the addition of a timeline scrollbar for smoother navigation through photo libraries.
