The Federal Government has announced four holidays for Eid ul Fitr starting from April 10, 2024, and a notification will soon be issued in this regard. According to the official announcement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved four holidays from April 10 to 13 on the occasion of Eid ul Fitr 2024.
Furthermore, the Met Office has predicted that the first day of Eid ul Fitr will on April 10 as the Shawwal moon is expected to be sighted in the evening on April 9. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) stated that the crescent for the month of Shawwal would be born on April 8 at 11:21 pm and would be around 19-20 hours by the Maghrib prayer on the next day.
The crescent for Shawwal will be visible for almost 50 minutes on April 9. Moreover, the PMD also stated that sky will be clear in most parts of the country, which is going to make sighting on the crescent easier. However, there are chances of clouds in the northern areas.
It is pertinent to mention that Ramadan’s crescent was sighted on March 11 and the first day of the holy month was observed the next day. If PMD’s prediction regarding Shawwal’s moon sighting turns out to be true, Pakistanis would observe only 29 days of fasting this year since Islamic months are either 29 or 30 days long.
