As the week progresses, Pakistan braces itself for a series of weather disturbances, with the Met Office issuing alerts and updates for various regions across the country. The forecast indicates the arrival of another potent westerly wave, set to sweep through the nation starting from the night of April 16th.
Balochistan
Expect rain, accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms, in several districts including Gwadar, Kech, Awaran, Chagi, Kharan, Awaran, Lasbella, Khuzdar, Kalat, Noushki, Mastung, Jhal Magsi, Naseerabad, Sibbi, Kohlu, Dera Bugti, Barkhan, Loralai, Harnai, Qilla Saifullah, Mastung, Ziarat, Shirani, Zhob, Musa Khel and Barkhan from the night of April 16th until the morning of April 19th. Some areas might experience heavy rainfall, raising concerns of flash flooding in local waterways.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
According to the weather update, the residents of Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner and Malakand, Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan and Kurram should prepare for heavy rain, windstorms, and even snowfall in mountainous regions from April 17th to April 21st. Hailstorms are also anticipated in isolated areas during this period.
Gilgit-Baltistan/Kashmir
Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir are expected to witness rainfall, thunderstorms, and snowfall in higher elevations from April 18th to April 22nd, with intermittent breaks.
Punjab/Islamabad
In Punjab and the federal capital Islamabad, showers with occasional heavy falls and hailstorms are predicted in several districts from April 18th to April 21st. This includes areas such as expected in Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Pakpattan and Sahiwal.
Meanwhile, there are chances of rain and thunderstorm in Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Kot Addu, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, Khanpur, Bahawalpur and Bahawalnagar with occasional gaps from 18th to 20th April.
Sindh
Karachi, Hyderabad, Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, Dadu, Qambar Shahdad Kot, Jamshoro and Sanghar should prepare for rain and thunderstorms from the night of April 17th until the morning of April 19th.
Possible Impacts and Advisories: The heavy rainfall poses risks of flash flooding in various regions, particularly in Balochistan and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Landslides are also a concern in mountainous areas. Farmers are advised to safeguard their crops, while tourists are urged to refrain from unnecessary travel during this period.
Temperatures are expected to drop alongside the wet spell. All relevant authorities are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to mitigate potential risks.
