The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has updated its weather advisory for Karachi, saying that more heavy rain is likely in the city and the province, despite rain emergency protocols set in place. Currently, there are chances of heavy downpours in Balochistan, but Karachi is not likely to get a lot of rain in the coming days. The Chief Meteorologist mentioned that the rain from Balochistan is moving towards Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with chances of heavy rain in those regions. Meanwhile, Balochistan’s coastal areas might see torrential rains.
The Karachi Water Sewerage Corporation’s Chief Operating Officer, Engineer Asadullah Khan, sent out 55 suction machines to main roads throughout the metropolis. He said Karachi’s mayor declared a rain emergency based on the weather forecast. The corporation is ready with all the equipment to handle the heavy rain. These suction machines will be placed in key spots, and engineers will supervise their deployment.
Khan assured that sewage pumping stations would work with backup generators in case of loadshedding and power outages, with enough diesel stocked up. He warned against removing manhole covers during rain, saying they are not for draining rainwater. All corporation staff, especially sewage workers, are on alert, with engineering staff having their leave canceled.
KWSC management is in touch with local authorities, like the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation. They are ready to handle any situation as a result of the bad weather. Corporation vehicles and staff will be active until rainwater is drained away. Khan advised people to stay indoors during rain unless unless absolutely necessary.
