The Punjab government has announced the Electric Bike Scheme for Teachers, which will provide e-bikes to 15,000 teachers across the province. The initiative, led by Provincial Education Minister Sikandar Hayat, will be implemented in three stages. Initially, the government will provide 5,000 electric bikes to teachers, followed by the remaining 10,000 in subsequent phases.
The program is meant to help tackle financial challenges faced by government teachers across the province amidst expensive petroleum prices. Under Punjab’s Electric Bike Scheme, thousands of teachers will be able to commute to school more easily and save on transportation costs.
Punjab’s Education Minister, Sikandar Hayat, seems optimistic about the new initiative, stating that it will be good for cost-saving and the environment. However, the government has yet to reveal more details about the e-bike scheme for teachers.
Recently, Punjab’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz, launched the Electric Bike Scheme for Students, which will provide 20,000 bikes to students in different cities. Under the initiative, the students will get 19,000 electric bikes and 1,000 conventional petrol bikes on installments at subsidized rates.
The scheme has kicked off in six major cities that include Faisalabad, Multan, Rawalpindi, and Lahore and students can submit their applications via the government’s online portal. Furthermore, the last date to submit application for the e-bike program is April 29, 2024.
