After much anticipation and numerous leaks, Apple has officially unveiled the next-generation iPad Pro and iPad Air tablets at the Let Loose event. The iPad Pro brings significant upgrades over its predecessor and possibly even surpasses the 2018 iPad Pro models.
Meanwhile, the iPad Air 6th Gen steps in as the successor to the two-year-old iPad Air 5th Gen, introduced back in 2022. These latest offerings feature much-needed enhancements along with a slightly refreshed design, including a new 13-inch display size variant alongside the standard 11-inch model.
Both variants of the iPad Air 6th Gen feature a Liquid Retina IPS LCD display, with the 13-inch model boasting a resolution of 2732×2048 pixels and 600 nits peak brightness.
Retaining the overall design of its predecessor, the iPad Air 6th Gen includes a flat frame, a Touch ID button at the top, and volume rocker keys on the right side. A notable change is the relocation of the front camera sensor to the right side when the tablet is held in landscape mode.
The tablet remains compatible with the Apple Pencil, which can be magnetically attached to the right frame, and now also supports the newly announced Pencil Pro. Additionally, it inherits the Pencil Hover feature previously limited to the Pro models.
The tablet maintains the same camera setup as its predecessor, featuring a 12MP rear camera with Smart HDR and 4K video recording capabilities, along with a 12MP front-facing selfie snapper.
Under the hood, the iPad Air 6th Gen is powered by Apple’s M2 processor, boasting a 50 percent increase in speed over the M1 Air. Both variants now start at a 128GB storage configuration, up from the previous generation, and offer support for WiFi-6E and 5G connectivity.
The iPad Air 6th Gen is priced at $599 for the 11-inch base model, while the 13-inch variant starts at $799. It comes in four color options: Blue, Purple, Starlight, and Space Grey. Pre-orders for the tablet are now open, with sales set to begin on May 15.
