Sindh’s Home Minister, Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, visited the Karachi Police Office for a meeting on the city’s law and order situation.
During the visit, the city’s police chief, Additional Inspector General Imran Yaqoob Minhas, suggested to Minister Lanjar the formation of a squad similar to Lahore’s Dolphin Force to tackle street crime. He proposed allocating 1,800 motorcycles for patrolling.
Additionally, it was suggested by the police chief to provide 1,100 vehicles, 2,000 pistols, and 5,000 anti-riot kits for the motorcycle force, along with hiring 9,200 policemen for the city.
The Additional IG highlighted the police’s ongoing efforts in safeguarding Chinese nationals, experts, and other foreigners, with input from relevant stakeholders.
He noted a decrease in incidents like car, motorcycle, and mobile phone thefts, as well as fewer fatalities during robbery attempts, attributing this decline to effective policing practices and consistent police actions against criminals.
Furthermore, he announced plans to conduct monthly meetings to discuss law and order issues.
It’s worth noting that Dolphin Force, initiated in 2016 under former Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, serves as an elite unit within the Punjab police to combat street crime.
