The business community of Faisalabad has decided to take legal action against Dr. Affan Qaiser following his controversial statement about watermelons being injected with harmful substances that could cause cancer and other diseases. Dr. Affan’s social media post, suggesting that watermelons were being injected with dangerous chemicals, went viral and sparked widespread fear among the public and massive loss to watermelon vendors and farmers across the country.
The traders have filed a petition stating that Dr. Affan’s misinformed claims have led to chaos, severely impacting both traders and landlords. They argue that the panic created by his statement has caused a significant drop in watermelon sales, resulting in billions of rupees in losses. The businessmen have sent a legal notice demanding Rs 10 billion in damages from Dr. Affan, holding him accountable for the economic disruption and the stress caused by his misleading claims.
Watermelon vendors across the country have reported huge losses following Dr. Affan’s claim that nearly all watermelons being sold were injected with a color and sweetener that was cancer causing. This has caused widespread fear among consumers, leading to a sharp decline in sales and substantial financial losses for vendors.
Dr. Affan suggested that the only way to test if a watermelon was injected was to use a tissue and place it on a cut watermelon to see if any red liquid appeared. However, this method is flawed and misleading. Watermelon juice is naturally red and will always leave a red color on any cloth or tissue paper.
This is a natural characteristic of watermelon juice and does not indicate the presence of harmful injections. Dr. Affan’s claim demonstrated a lack of understanding of basic fruit properties, contributing to unnecessary fear and economic harm.
The business community hopes that the legal action will not only address the financial damages but also help restore consumer confidence and correct the misinformation spread by Dr. Affan’s statements.
