Khayaban-e-Amin is a popular society aka housing area in Lahore, but if you are looking to rent a house or a flat/apartment, it may be a good idea to avoid this society. While there are all kinds of facilities available in the society such as grocery stores, vegetable and fruit shops, tandoors, and bakeries, there are some disadvantages are best to be avoided.
The society maybe referred to as a prestigious area with good security and praised for its family friendly environment, there is a major disadvantage to the society that is best to be avoided if you are just someone looking to rent a house.
There are many homes and flats/apartments available for rent in Khayaban-e-Amin society at affordable rates but one of the biggest disadvantages of this housing scheme is the increased amount of loadshedding during summers and winters.
While searching for a house for rent, I came across Khayaban-e-Amin society in Lahore and it looked like a very good idea due to the reasonable and very affordable rent. However, the property dealer that showed me the home was upfront about one thing, the increased amount of loadshedding in the society.
According to the details given to me, the residents of Khayaban-e-Amin society face up to 6-10 hours of loadshedding during summer and winter months as society has its own electricity setup and give time for their generation units to cool down, especially during summer months.
I was told that the society provides its own electricity bills to consumers instead of Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) and the rates are also different compared to the government set rates. Khayaban-e-Amin charges customers around Rs. 35 per unit, which may sound cheaper but it is not worth it if there is increased loadshedding to deal with in the summer time.
While home owners in the society can always opt for solar systems to combat this loadshedding during the day time, if you are renting it is best to avoid this society and look for home somewhere else. A good alternative is Lake City in Lahore, where rents are affordable for small homes like 5 marla and there is no increased and unnecessary loadshedding as well.
