LAHORE: In a tragic incident, a man named Asghar set himself on fire outside the office of the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab after being denied a meeting despite waiting since 7 am.
Frustrated by the lack of response from the authorities, Asghar resorted to the extreme act of self-immolation.
An elite force officer quickly intervened to save Asghar, but was burnt and injured in the process. Both Asghar was shifted to Mayo Hospital for treatment.
The Old Anarkali Police Station has initiated an investigation into the incident.
Upon hearing of the incident, IG Punjab Usman Anwar took immediate action, requesting a detailed report from DIG Operations Lahore. He directed the AIG Admin to ensure Asghar receives the highest level of medical care at the hospital.
Furthermore, IG Punjab instructed DIG Operations Lahore to personally oversee the resolution of Asghar’s case and ensure that the injured officer, identified as Hameed, is provided with the best possible medical treatment.
