Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan announced a new electric bus (e-bus) service in Rawalpindi, set to start next year. This service aims to make commuting easier with six planned routes, including one from Taxila, Wah Cantt, and IJ Principal Road to Chongi No 26, and another from Daultala to Rawalpindi.
During a press conference on Thursday, Khan also discussed upcoming maintenance on Metro Bus tracks, scheduled to run from June to December 2024. This is part of efforts to enhance the city’s public transport.
Khan has been visiting Rawalpindi on the orders of Chief Minister Mariyam Nawaz Sharif to tackle transport issues and has consulted national and provincial assembly members to improve route planning.
He criticized the previous government for neglecting the Metro Bus service, which started 8-9 years ago, and affirmed that the current government is dedicated to its upkeep. The Metro Bus service is crucial for millions of daily commuters and helps prevent further road damage.
