India defeated Pakistan by six runs in their second match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 at the Nassau Country International Cricket Stadium in New York on Sunday.
Even though Pakistan started well by not losing any wickets in the first over, they couldn’t keep up the momentum. Captain Babar Azam was out after scoring just 13 runs, caught by Jasprit Bumrah.
Usman Khan came in after Babar and supported Mohammad Rizwan, but he was eventually bowled out by Axar Patel.
Pakistan needed a solid partnership in the middle of their innings, but none of their players could provide that stability. Fakhar Zaman scored 13 runs off 8 balls, Shadab Khan made 4 runs off 7 balls, and Imad Wasim scored 15 runs off 23 balls, all of them getting out before they could make a big impact.
The game took a crucial turn when Bumrah bowled out Rizwan, who had scored 31 runs and looked promising to lead Pakistan to victory. However, Bumrah’s excellent bowling cut that short.
Pakistan ended their innings with 113 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. For India, Bumrah took three wickets, Hardik Pandya got two, and Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel each took one.
In the first innings, the Pakistani bowlers were dominant and did not allow the Indian batsmen to score freely in what was one of the most awaited matches of the tournament.
Pakistan started the match strongly with Naseem Shah dismissing Virat Kohli for just four runs in his first over. Then, Shaheen Afridi got Indian captain Rohit Sharma out in the very next over.
Axar Patel was sent in to bat at number four instead of Suryakumar Yadav to prevent a collapse, but he too was taken out by Naseem in the eighth over.
India seemed to recover with Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav working together, but then Yadav was dismissed by Haris Rauf, triggering an Indian collapse.
After Yadav’s wicket, India quickly lost more wickets. Amir took out Pant, who had scored 42 runs off 31 balls, and also got Ravindra Jadeja out in the 15th over.
Haris Rauf finished off the Indian batting line-up, and India was all out for just 119 runs in 19 overs.
For Pakistan, Naseem and Haris were the standout bowlers, each taking three wickets. Amir got two wickets, and Shaheen Afridi took one.
