The Shandur Polo Festival, which was set to take place from June 28 to June 30, has been postponed because of bad weather. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government announced this decision in a notification.
The Shandur Polo Festival is a yearly event held at Shandur Top, the highest polo ground in the world at 3,700 meters above sea level. Teams from Gilgit and Chitral districts compete in this unique tournament, which follows freestyle polo rules.
The festival is more than just polo. It features folk music, dancing, and a camping village, all funded by the KP government.
Muhammad Bakhtiar Khan, the provincial Secretary of Tourism and Culture, earlier stated that all preparations for the festival were complete.
Furthermore, the Culture and Tourism Authority had planned to introduce a heli safari service for the event. They had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Petronet Aviation to make this possible.
The new dates for the festival will be announced soon.
