Pakistan is facing slow internet connectivity as multiple submarine cables connecting to Pakistan have gone down. There are a total of seven submarine cables that connect Pakistan to the global internet and four of them are currently down leading to slow internet services across the country.
Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) is the most affected as all four submarine cables belong to this internet service provider (ISP). Furthermore, since PTCL provides bandwidth to a lot of other local ISPs, this has become a widespread problem with many people facing slow browsing and downloading speeds.
According to sources, the four faulty submarine cables include, SEA-ME-WE 4 (South-East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 4), SEA-ME-WE 5 (South-East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 5), I-ME-WE (India-Middle East-Western Europe), and AAE-1 (Asia-Africa-Europe 1).
Meanwhile, PTCL still has one operational cable, which is the SEA-ME-WE 3 (South-East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 3). Moreover, Transworld’s TW1, and Cybernet’s PEACE (Pakistan & East Africa Connecting Europe) remain operational.
If your internet is slow for browsing and downloading, it might be due to problems with the submarine cables used by your ISP, which likely uses a PTCL connection. Most people are affected by this, but those using the Transworld and Cybernet cables are not experiencing these internet issues.
