The Punjab Home Ministry has issued new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the observance of majalis during Muharram-ul-Haram.
Key directives include the mandatory installation of walk-through gates at sensitive locations to ensure heightened security.
The SOPs detail a comprehensive three-layer security plan for majalis, designed to prevent any untoward incidents. Fixed entry and exit routes will be established before the events, and attendees will be screened using metal detectors.
Additionally, parking facilities will be situated at least 200 meters from the majlis venues. The use of loudspeakers will be restricted to the majalis, and strict adherence to scheduled times is advised.
Ashura, which falls on the 10th day of Muharram, is expected to be observed on July 16 or 17, 2024, in Pakistan. This significant day, known as Youm-e-Ashura, is observed annually according to the Islamic calendar.
