The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has officially declared a public holiday on the 1st of Muharram. This decision was communicated through a notification issued by the KP administration department, reflecting the significance of this day in the Islamic calendar.
In a separate development, the district administration in Gilgit has taken measures to ensure peace and security during the holy month of Muharram-ul-Haram by imposing Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) for a duration of two months. This step is aimed at maintaining order during a period that holds great religious importance.
The central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to meet on July 6 in Quetta to sight the Muharram moon, which will signify the start of the new Islamic calendar. This crucial meeting will be chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, the Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
In addition to the central committee’s meeting, zonal committees will also convene on the same day in various major cities, including Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, and Peshawar. These meetings are part of the coordinated effort to ensure the accurate sighting of the moon and the proper commencement of the Islamic New Year.
