Pakistani mountaineer Samina Baig shifted to Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Renowned mountaineer Samina Baig, who was evacuated by Pakistan Army helicopters and initially treated at a hospital in Skardu, has now been transferred to Islamabad due to a decline in her health during her K2 expedition.

Baig, celebrated as the first Pakistani woman to summit Mount Everest, was co-leading the expedition with Italian mountaineer Agostino Da Polenza. However, severe health issues compelled her to abandon the climb at the K2 base camp.

Sources report that Baig will undergo a series of medical tests at a hospital in Islamabad. On Sunday, she was airlifted to Skardu by an army aviation helicopter and admitted to the Combined Military Hospital in Skardu, where family sources revealed she was experiencing lung problems.

In related news, Amina Shigri, another member of the expedition, departed the base camp and began her trek towards Shigar on Saturday. The remaining Pakistani climbers, Nadima and Samana, along with their four Italian colleagues, are continuing their expedition.
