ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has taken a firm stand by suspending the membership of Sher Afzal Marwat, a prominent and outspoken party leader. Marwat, who won a seat in the National Assembly in the February 8 elections, has faced scrutiny for his recent actions.
PTI leaders convened with the party’s founder, Imran Khan, who is currently incarcerated, on Thursday. During this meeting, they decided on Marwat’s suspension due to his repeated violations of party discipline over the past month. Party officials stated that Marwat’s behavior had crossed acceptable boundaries, prompting the need for disciplinary action. They emphasized that no leader is above the party’s code of conduct, and similar consequences await any leader who breaches party lines.
Prior to his suspension, PTI issued a show-cause notice to Marwat for making statements deemed irresponsible and damaging to the party’s reputation. PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub Khan, who issued the notice, demanded an explanation from Marwat within three days. The notice highlighted that Marwat’s statements contradicted the party’s discipline and violated Imran Khan’s directives, which underscore the importance of responsible behavior.
Marwat now faces the possibility of further disciplinary measures if he fails to provide a satisfactory explanation. This decisive action by PTI underscores the party’s commitment to maintaining discipline and integrity among its ranks, signaling that all members, regardless of their position, must adhere to the party’s standards.
