JAMSHORO – A hand grenade exploded at the Jamshoro Police Station on Wednesday, injuring eight people. The incident occurred due to extreme heat in the storeroom, according to police reports.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Hyderabad, Tariq Dharejo, confirmed the explosion. The grenade detonated after the storeroom’s temperature rose significantly. The blast injured two assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs), five other police personnel, and a suspect.
The injured include ASI Rasool Bakhsh Narejo, ASI Muhammad Bakhsh, and police personnel Ghulam Mohiuddin, Irshad Ali Gaincho, Abdul Latif, Jamshed Sanjrani, and prisoner Jamshed. Six of the injured are receiving treatment at the Civil Hospital Hyderabad. Two others have been transferred to Karachi for further medical care.
A bomb disposal squad promptly arrived at the scene. Authorities cordoned off the area to ensure safety and conduct investigations.
Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar has taken notice of the incident. He has requested a detailed report from Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohammad Tariq Nawaz Jamshoro. The home minister emphasized the need for quality medical facilities for the injured and thorough investigation by the bomb disposal squad.
The incident has raised concerns about the storage and safety protocols for explosives at police stations. Further investigations are underway to determine the exact cause and prevent future occurrences.
