Kashmir : Baramulla shuts against arrests

Srinagar : A complete shutdown was observed on the second day in Baramullah town on Tuesday against the arrests of some youth by police on the charges of their alleged involvement in stone pelting.

Eye witness told KNS that all the shops and business establishments remained closed while traffic was off the roads.  Police had arrested several youth from the town on the charges of stone pelting and enforcing bandh in the town. The town had also observed shutdown on Monday against the arrests of some shop keepers.

Meanwhile Protests erupted at several places in the town against the arrests of youth. According to KNS reporter Tension gripped Baramullah town Tuesday morning when scores of youth protested and pelted stones on vehicles and on men in uniform. A senior police official in Baramullah denied any stone pelting. “There was no stone pelting today in the town. The people had stopped the vehicular movement only for some time and after that situation was normal again,” he said.

Meanwhile Additional contingents of police and CRPF were deployed in the town to bring the situation under control. Senior official of Police wished not to be named told KNS that police would continue action against the youth involved in stone pelting.“We had arrested some youth who are involved in stone pelting incidents in the town. We are identifying the stone palters and they will be booked under law. No one will be allowed to disturb peace in the town, “he said.

Meanwhile President of Beopar Mandal of Baramullah told KNS that they had called off the strike on Monday evening as all the shopkeepers including Nazir Ahmad shiek,Meraj-u din war,Farooq Ahmad waseel, Fasil Ahmad Hashim Farooq,Tawseef Mir, ,Sajad Kakroo were realeased.
