Islamabad Update: Situation Update 5 October 2024

Mobile services and internet data remain suspended in Islamabad and Rawalpindi for the second consecutive day, as authorities intensify efforts to maintain control amid ongoing protests. Earlier, the Srinagar Highway—connecting the Motorway M1, M2, and Islamabad International Airport—was dug up by authorities to prevent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers from entering the city.

Tear gas shelling continues in protest areas near 26 Number, G-15, Tarnol, Faizabad, and the Islamabad Expressway. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has yet to arrive in Islamabad, but sources report he is en route with thousands of supporters heading toward D-Chowk.

Important Updates:

GT Road (KP & Punjab), M1 & M2: Please avoid these routes until further notice. The situation is tense and unpredictable.
ATM Cash Availability: ATM machines are running low on cash. Make withdrawals only if absolutely necessary.
Mobile Network Outages: There is no mobile network coverage currently.
Travel Advisory: Only travel if absolutely urgent.
Protest Areas: Shelling has resumed in protest hotspots, particularly G-13, G-14, G-15, and Jhangi Saedan.
Health Safety: Complaints of eye irritation and breathing issues due to tear gas have been reported. If driving, avoid lowering car windows. Keep water and towels handy.
Road Closures: Major roads remain closed, and more are being blocked. Plan travel accordingly.
Water Usage: If you rely on water tankers, use water carefully.
Panic Buying: Reports of panic buying in stores. Please buy responsibly and leave supplies for other families. Things should stabilize soon.

Emergency Route to Shifa Hospital:
Route 1 (from Westridge):

Take Peshawar Road and detour around blocked areas.
Use the underpass to reach IJP Road, continuing towards I-8 via Tipu Sultan Road.

Route 2 (from DHA):

Take the Expressway to Khanna Pull.
Cross to the opposite side just before Khanna Pull and use Service Road East towards Lehtrar Road.
Continue on Park Road, then take Murree Road towards Faizabad.
After passing Best Western, take Garden Avenue into Shakurpurian, then continue to the I-8 Expressway Interchange.
