In a major step towards digital payments, Google Wallet (GPay), which allows users to conduct online, in-app and contactless using mobile payments, went live in Pakistan as of Wednesday.
The Google Wallet, as per a statement, delivers a more secure, easy and helpful payments experience to people and supports digital pass such as loyalty cards and boarding pass.

Google Wallet is a digital wallet application from Google that enables users to store and manage payment cards, loyalty cards, transit passes, and other digital items on supported devices, with users having the option to enter the payment and incidental information to prevent fraud. This allows for radio-frequency used in contactless payments via NFC (Near Field Communication).
Farhan Qureshi, Country Director for Google Pakistan, said “With the increase in digital transactions, Pakistan’s digital payments landscape is evolving rapidly, introducing more ways to manage digital transactions and bringing efficiencies into the payment, shopping, and travel experiences through secure, easy integrations with Google Wallet.
It will allow Pakistanis to tap-and-pay in stores, check out effortlessly online, and easily access their boarding passes whenever they travel,” he added. Faraz Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer, Payoneer Middle-East, said, “More importantly, this launch will play an instrumental role in enabling Pakistan’s financial inclusion and unleashing economic opportunities for all.”
Google announced that it is currently rolling out support for adding cards from Bank AlFalah, Bank of Punjab, Faysal Bank Noor, HBL, Jazzcash, Meezan Bank and UBL into Google Wallet for cardholders can pay with their Android-phone or with their Wear OS device wherever contactless payments are accepted.
This development comes as Pakistan harbors profound growth in its digital payment infrastructure. According to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Quarterly Payment Systems Review (PSR) for Q1 FY25, digital channels now comprise an impressive 87 percent (87%) of retail payments by volume, signaling an important change in consumer trends and confidence in the digital landscape.
The report, which covered the period from July to September 2024 noted that strong progress was made in the areas of digital payment uptake, infrastructure deployment, and a steady movement away from cash and paper-based instruments.

To use Google Wallet in Pakistan Just goto google playstore and search ‘Google Wallet‘ and install it or simply click here, Existing eligible credit or debit card stored in your Google account will be shown directly in Google Wallet. Just follow its instructions to configure it for contactless transactions.


Unless you have a card saved and would like to add a new one, then tap on Add a card in the carousel at the top of the page. Next, you will be required to read and accept the terms and conditions of the issuer and complete the verification. At that point, your card will get tokenized, and you will be able to use it to make payments through Google Wallet.

It also supports a range of digital items from loyalty cards to boarding passes and gives people a safer, simpler, and more helpful payment experience. These are the bank cards that you can add to Google Wallet/Google

- Zindigi (Visa debit and credit cards, and Mastercard debit cards) will be able to add their cards to Google Wallet in Pakistan soon.
PayFast is also working with Safepay to integrate merchants onto its platform too, meaning soon you could see stores like (Onic, Gul Ahmed, Sana Safinaz, J. and KE just as easily as you pay online using Google Pay.
Additionally, in Pakistan, you can download boarding passes for Batik Air and Thai Airways to Google Wallet. All this enables travelers to receive updates on departure time and gate changes to make their airport experience seamless. Also, while traveling abroad, they will also be able to tap & pay (Google Wallet) safely.
