QUETTA: The Balochistan National Party (BNP) is continuing its sit-in protest at Lakpas in Mastung, demanding the release of Dr. Mahrang Baloch and other activists from the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC).
Despite ongoing discussions, the standoff between the government and protesters remains unresolved. BNP leader Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal is expected to announce the party’s next move today (Thursday).
Political leaders from different parties have shown support for the BNP. On Wednesday, a delegation from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), including Salman Akram Raja, Latif Khosa, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Shaista Khosa, and Milli Ittehad Council’s Sahibzada Hamid Raza, visited the protest site to stand in solidarity with the BNP.
The protesters are demanding the immediate release of Dr. Mahrang Baloch, Bebo Baloch, and other detained activists. They have vowed to continue their demonstration until their demands are met.
The government, represented by Minister for Planning and Development Mir Zahoor Buledi, has held talks with Mengal, but no agreement has been reached. Mengal insists that the discussions cannot move forward until the detained activists, especially the three women, are released.
Mengal also stated that no formal agreement has been signed, and the negotiations so far have not led to any clear results. He criticized the government’s delegation, saying they lacked the authority to make real decisions.
He will announce BNP’s future strategy at 5:00 PM today (Thursday), which could lead to an escalation of the protest if their demands are not met.
