RAWALPINDI: Outgoing army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on Friday formally passed on military’s command to newly appointed Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, SAMAA reported
At a ceremony at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, Kayani handed Raheel Sharif a command stick that symbolizes the transfer of control of Pakistan Army.
With the change of command, General Shrif becomes 15th army chief of Pakistan.
Smartly turned out contingents presented guard of honour for Chief Guest of the ceremony General Kayani following the change of command.
Earlier, General Kayani laid floral wreath on a monument of martyrs in the GHQ as marching bands played tunes.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif was also present in the ceremony among high army officials, ambassadors and media representatives.
Gen. Raheel Sharif, Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military) hails from a martial stock. He was born in Quetta on 16 June 1956 to Major and Mrs Muhammad Sharif. He is younger brother of Major Shabir Sharif, who received both the Sitara-e-Jurat and Nishan-e-Haider for his bravery in 1971 war, and Capt Mumtaz Sharif.
