Election Commission Of Pakistan ( ECP ) decided to deploy rangers during NA-246 by election in Karachi.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to deploy Rangers both inside and outside the polling booths during by-election in NA-246 Karachi.
Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) had repeatedly called for deploying military and Rangers during the by-election in NA-246 Karachi.
The ECP on Thursday decided to deploy the paramilitary personnel to ensure peaceful conduct of by-polls in the constituency.
According to details, Rangers personnel will be deployed both inside and outside the polling stations in the constituency during the by-election on April 23.
The ECP said that the in-charge Rangers will have the powers of Grade-1 Magistrate during the by-election.
Earlier during his visit to the metropolis, Imran Khan stressed that the presence of military and Rangers was utmost necessary for the conduct of peaceful by-election in the constituency.
“Even today an incident took place, although a minor one. MQM activists are not in control of their leadership and hence the presence of military and Rangers personnel both inside and outside the polling booths is a need of the hour,” he said.
Earlier, Sindh election commissioner has demanded Rangers deployment in the NA-246 constituency with immediate effect till the completion of polling process on April 23 amid fears of ‘violence’ considering the tense situation prevailing in Azizabad between two of the contesting parties.
