Talking to PPI, Professor Zaman Sheikh said that according to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), currently, the number of patients with diabetes in Pakistan is 7 million, which will rise to 14.4 million in the year 2040 if not controlled. He added that poor socio-economic conditions in developing countries like Pakistan, women with diabetes experience barriers in accessing cost-effective treatment and care.
“Although prevalence ratio of diabetes is almost equal in women and men, around 82,000 women die from diabetes-related complications in Pakistan each year while 36,000 men die from diabetes in the country,” he added.
