Windows 10 April 2018 Update issues are causing the devices to freeze and the bugs are affecting applications such as Google Chrome and the company’s own digital assistant Cortana. Microsoft Agent Jess Can in a support page acknowledged that Windows 10 April 2018 Update hangs the system when using certain apps and the fix is arriving on May 8.
While we initially thought the bug is only affecting Google Chrome, it appears that the issue isn’t limited to just one browser as the bug is also causing other apps including Cortana to freeze. Windows 10 April 2018 Update could hang or freeze at random times while running any app, it’s not just limited to certain apps.
Microsoft has also shared two workarounds that could fix such issues on any system running Windows 10 April 2018 Update. It is also worth noting that bug will be fixed with the next cumulative update arriving on Tuesday. On the same day, the update is expected to roll out to more users.
Microsoft Windows 10 April 2018 System Recovery
To recover the system, you need to close the lid of the laptop or press keys simultaneously. Here’s how you can do that:
- Workaround 1: On a laptop, just close and open the lid to recover the system.
- Workaround 2: Press the Windows logo key + Ctrl + Shift + B in the keyboard.
- Or simultaneously press both the volume-up and volume-down buttons, three times within 2 seconds on a tablet.
Both of the workarounds basically forces the system to sleep and then wakes it up, allowing the system to recover without the data loss. The workaround could be complex on the desktop, although it seems easy for laptop users.
Microsoft is developing a cumulative update to address the reported bug and the fix could be released on May 8. “Microsoft is working on a solution with the goal of including it in the next regular monthly update, currently targeted for a release date of May 8, 2018”, the company said.
On the same day, the company is expected to begin the automatic rollout of the Windows 10 April 2018 Update, and Microsoft would also ship this month’s Patch Tuesday updates to all supported versions of Windows.
