AB de Villiers announces retirement from international cricket

Cape Town: South African AB de Villiers has announced he is retiring from international cricket with immediate effect, International media reported.

According to International media, legendary South African batsman AB de Villers, announced his retirement from all three formats of the game – Test, ODI and T20s.

AB de Villiers said in a video posted to his Twitter account, “I’ve decided to retire from all international cricket with immediate effect. After 114 Test matches, 228 One Day Internationals and 78 T20 Internationals it is time for others to take over”. 

De Villiers holds many batting records, including the world’s fastest ODI 50, 100 and 150, the fastest Test century by a South African and the fastest T20I 50 by a South African. He also plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League. He announced voluntary retirement from all forms of international cricket on May 23,2018.

The cricket star finishes his career with a staggering 20,014 international runs (8765 in Tests, 9577 in ODIs and 1672 in T20Is) and finishes with a batting average over 50 in both Tests and ODIs.

De Villiers captained South Africa in all formats, but since his injuries, he stepped down from Test captaincy and continued in limited over formats. However, with defeats in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy and England series, he stepped down from limited over captaincy as well
