The former army chief Pervez Musharraf was accused in a treason case on March 2014, he had appeared in the court to deny all charges. A special court on Monday decided to conduct the proceedings of Musharraf Treason case daily from October 9.

Mr. Musharraf remained President from 1999 until 2008 after seizing power Mr. Nawaz Sharif in a Military Coup. He is accused of suspending the constitution unlawfully and imposing emergency rule in 2007. He has pleaded not guilty and claimed charges against him are politically motivated. If convicted could face death penalty.
Special Court has announced to conduct Musharraf Treason case daily hearing from October 9. A two judge bench comprising of Justice Nazar Akbar (Sindh High Court) and Chief Justice Yawar Ali (Lahore High Court) heard the treason case against Musharraf.

On the enquiry by Justice Yawar regarding the measures being taken for Musharraf’s appearance before bench, “A request has been made to Interpol regarding Musharraf’s arrest.” Said the representative of Ministry of Interior.
Ministry of Interior is directed by Justice Yawar to submit a written statement if Musharraf can be made present before the court. The court hearing was than adjourned till October Nine.
Musharraf went into self-imposed exile in 2008 in Dubai and London, while returning to Pakistan in March 2013 found himself facing an array of charges concerning to his time in power. He was put on the exit control list (ECL) and was in house arrest. The court then had also refused his application to visit his sick mother in Dubai.
On March 2016, his name was removed from Exit Control List on the orders of the Supreme Court and the former president left Pakistan for Dubai for medical treatment. Few months later special court had ordered the confiscation of his property to his no-show as he was declared proclaimed offender by the special court. Despite given a last chance to return to the country, since he failed to return the Supreme Court ordered the cancellation of his identity card and passport.
