SC orders Private Schools to cut fee by 20 percent

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered private schools across the country to cut their monthly fee by 20 percent on Thursday.

According to the interim issued by the apex court, all the private schools charging above Rs.5000/- in a monthly fee will have to cut the fee by 20 percent and return or adjust half of the fee charged over the summer holidays within two months.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Saqib Nisar heard the suo motto case against the tuition fee hikes by private schools.

The order stated that “Owners cannot shut down their schools.” As hearing is under way, the chief justice remarked that the Supreme Court was not bound by decision made by the high court.

saying “The Supreme Court will make a decision on its own as how much reduction in the fee is appropriate”.

CJP instructed FBR to gathered all the schools and owners tax returns of last seven years.
