Suicide: Mum leaps 330ft to her death with son, 10, in her arms

COLUMBIA: Her 10 year old son told her not to jump off the bridge. The 32 year old mother leaps 330ft to her death with her son in her arms anyways.

The mother is identified as 32-year-old Jessy Paola Moreno Cruz , and her son 10 year old as May Ceballos.

Jessy Paola was being harassed by debt collectors, and didn’t have enough money for rent.

The desperate and scared mom jumped off bridge after being left homeless.

The horrific murder-suicide incident occured on the La Variante Bridge in the community of Ibague in Tolima, central-western Colombia.

The emergency services tried to help her but were left in a state of shock when she ignored them while she sat on a bridge under construction in Colombia.

Her ten year old son also kept telling her not to jump.

As reported by Radio Cadenal Nacional SAS officials from Ministry of Health of Ibague were also present at the scene.

Many tried to convince her to change her mind. Those who tried included were a doctor, psychologist, police officers and firefighters. They spent an hour trying to persuade her.

She ignored them all and jumped off the bridge with her son in her arms, killing both herself and her boy.

Firefighter Rafel Rico told reporters:

“They begged her not to do it and tried to convince her to stop but sadly she took the fatal decision.”

Due to financial problems Moreno had recently been thrown out from her home.

She and her son were left homeless without enough money for rent.

Officials trying to help

Guillermo Alfonso Jaramillo, Ibague mayor stated initial investigations showed the mother was being harassed by the debt collectors.

He also said

“This ends up hurting or even costing the life of the person… this lady, who was a single mother, unfortunately was desperate at the pressure of paying back debts.”

An investigation into their deaths are under process.
