SOUTH AFRICA: Newborn baby girl was rescued from storm water drain in Durban, South African.
The emergency services were alerted by the resident after they heard the baby crying.

The baby was spotted in when a bystander climbed down the drain. She is said to be one to three days old and was found with umbilical cord still attached to her.
Rescue services used a chisel and hammer to break into the drain. After four hours of rigorous work baby was rescued and she had only minor injuries.
The infant was airlifted to Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital and given urgent care.

She was named Sibanisethu (Our Ray of Light) by the residents.
The baby suffers hypothermia and had to be kept warm, but over all her condition was satisfactory, Dr. Timothy Hardcastle hospital trauma specialist gave an statement. The infant only suffered minor injuries.
The baby will be flown to another hospital. The doctors have also said it was a miracle that the baby was safe and that she was given a clean health bill by the hospital.
The police are investigating and a case of attempted murder has been opened.

Newborn Baby Girl Rescued From Storm Drain in Durban
According to a witness who is a father of five year old said, he actually had tears in his eyes when he saw the baby in the storm drain.
He said he heard the baby crying in the early hours of morning, First he could not believe it but he climbed down the drain and actually saw the baby in there.
He first tried to get the baby out but soon realized wasn’t possible. He is thankful that the fire-brigade and the paramedics came along to rescue the baby.
According to the witnesses the crying sounded like that of a cat mewing as it was coming from down below.
The baby is in safe hands now.
