Thai King Vajiralongkorn Marries Bodyguard

THAILAND: Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn marries his deputy head of his personal security, General Suthida Vajiralongkorn Na Ayudhya.

It was announced in a royal statement. The royal statement read:

 
His Majesty the King Vajiralongkorn “has decided to promote General Suthida Vajiralongkorn Na Ayudhya, his royal consort, to become Queen Suthida and she will hold the title of the royal dignity of the royal family from now Onwards

The Royal Statement

The surprise announcement of the royal statement came before his elaborate coronation ceremonies begin on Saturday.

Queen Suthida is King Vajiralongkorn’s long-term partner.

They have been seen in the public together for many years.

However, their relationship was never officially acknowledged.

In 2014 king Vajiralongkorn appointed Suthida as the deputy commander of his bodyguard unit, who was a former flight attendant.

In 2017 she was made a full general in the army.

Both the promotions were made on king’s request.

King Maha Vajiralongkorn, 66, became the constitutional monarch after the death of his father King Bhumibol Adulyadej in 2016.

King Maha Vajiralongkorn has been married three times before and divorced.

He has seven children.

Thai King Vajiralongkorn Marries Bodyguard

The clips of the royal family ceremony was shown on all Thai TV channels on Wednesday.

All the royal family members and royal advisers were among the attendees.

The footage aired also showed Prayuth Chan-Ocha, leader of the military government that has run Thailand since a 2014 army coup attending the ceremony.

The footage show Queen Suthida and others prostrating before the Thai King. It is a Thai custom.

The Thai king Vajiralongkorn can be seen pouring sacred water on the head of Queen Suthida.

Later both signed a marriage registry.

Bhumibol Adulyadej ruled for 70 years before his death, making him the longest-reigning monarch in the world.
