Robert Shaw, a former Apple employee is reportedly suing the company for breaking the disability law. Shaw, worked as an Apple Store Genius in Ontario, Canada and had a disability. According to him, the company failed to comply to the disability law. This is not the first time Apple is being sued by an employee. It seems fairly common of Apple to have problems with its Employees and Apple ends up getting sued over these matters.
According to a report by Patently Apple, Shaw claims that the company refused to work on providing him an individual accommodation plan and failed to provide him a solution to his disability for him to work there.
According to Shaw’s lawyer, Andrew Monkhouse, the company failed to comply to Ontario’s Accesssibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA). He says that a lawsuit has been filed in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.
Andrew Monkhouse said that:
On its company website, Apple proudly displays its work on accessibility technology. Apple has also used their work on accessibility in its marketing materials. The company has received awards and a great deal of positive press for its efforts in accessibility technology. Yet, these accusations seem to indicate that the company does not appear to be practicing what it preaches in its own retail stores,
According to the report, Apple failed to provide Shaw with a desk of a particular height for him to work on and also failed to make necessary adjustments to the doors that he needed to use.
The report adds:
According to the Claim, only three of seven doors at the store were eventually made automatic and, instead of installing a button to open the door, Apple provided Robert with a remote control that repeatedly failed,
Shaw also claims that the manager told him that Apple might not be the right place for him to work and that if he continued to be unhappy, he will not get promoted.
