The DG ISPR from his official and personal Twitter account posted about Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Qamar Bajwa received a telephone call from the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Pompeo contacts COAS Bajwa to discuss the regional situation following the killing of the Iranian General Qasem Soleimani.
The tweet was made shorty after Pompeo contacts COAS Bajwa saying that the both of them have spoken over the phone discussing the regional situations and implications of the escalation in the region after today’s events.
The first tweet was followed by one more saying that “COAS emphasised need for maximum restraint and constructive engagement by all concerned to de-escalate the situation in broader interest of peace and stability,” also wrting in his tweet that “COAS also reiterated the need for maintaining focus on success of Afghan Peace Process.”
Pakistan’s foreign Office issued a statment saying:
Pakistan’s foreign office had expressed its concerns over the situation after the killing of Iranian General and urged to exercise restraint.
The press released stated:
Pakistan has viewed with deep concern the recent developments in the Middle East, which seriously threaten peace and stability in the region,
Respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity are the fundamental principles of the UN Charter, which should be adhered to,
US Secretary of State also made a tweet after his contact with the COAS Qamar Bajwa.
Pompeo said that it was a defensive action by the US to kill Qassem Soleimani and that Iran’s actions in the region are destabilizing and that it was done to protect American interest.
He also made other tweets saying that he had contacted other officials including the German Minister for Foreign Affairs Heiko Maas, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.
