Darren Sammy to get honorary citizenship on Pakistan day

ISLAMABAD: The President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi will award the highest civilian award and honorary citizenship to Darren Sammy.

West Indies cricket star Darren Sammy who captured the hearts of Pakistani people is set to receive honorary citizenship next month on March 23.

Acknowledging his contribution to cricket in Pakistan, the President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi will confer the highest civilian award and honorary citizenship to Darren Sammy on Pakistan Day.

Sammy will also receive the Nishan-e-Pakistan, the country’s top civilian award on the same day.

Darren was the first cricketer who came to play in Pakistan when everyone refused. The Peshawar Zalmi cricket star joined the Pakistan Super League in 2016. He has been a heart-throb of the cricket fans since then.

His contribution played a major role in the return of top-flight cricket to Pakistan.

Javed Afridi, the owner of Peshawar Zalmi, initiated the idea of honorary citizenship and had requested the PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani. The PCB followed up this idea with the federal government in light of Darren Sammy’s invaluable contribution to cricket in Pakistan.

Darren Sammy was first to agree to tour Pakistan when the PSL final was brought to the country. He has been in the hearts of the people of Pakistan since then.

reacting to the news Sammy said, whatever I did was for the love of people, not for any personal gains.

Sammy who always calls Pakistan his second home said; I don’t need a passport to show my love for the country. He recognizes the support of all the players who have contributed to the PSL.

He is glad that his contributions have been recognized, and said he didn’t do it for any personal gains but for his affection with the people and for the love he gets from Pakistan.
