As the coronavirus has the world in its grasp and everything is being affected, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics are also likely to be postponed according to report by USA Today.
An International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Dick Pound revealed to USA Today that the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will not be starting on 24 July 2020 as previously planned and according to him the tournament is likely to be moved to 2021 after details are worked out.
However, no official word has been given by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) nor the Tokyo 2020 organizing committee.

The IOC President Thomas Bach however did say that there is a possibility of postponing the Tokyo Games and said that a decision will be made in the next four week however there is no chance of the games being entirely cancelled.
The Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Committee as well as the Australia Olympic Committee both released similar statements saying that they could not send teams to the Tokyo Games.
When will the 2020 Tokyo Olympics take place?
As stated above, the decision will be finalized by the IOC within the next four weeks however it is likely that the Games will be moved to 2021.
This is one of the biggest sports event that is being affected by the coronavirus (COVID-19) which originated China at their Hubei province and has now become a global pandemic with 185 countries being affected.

The novel coronavirus has infected over 373,000 people and claimed the lives of over 16,000 globally. What started in China has now spread globally with Italy now having the most number of deaths after the epicenter of the virus moved to Europe.
The death toll in Italy has reached 6,077 for 63,927 confirmed cases compared to death toll in China that is almost half at 3,270 for 81,093 confirmed cases.
The United States now seem to be becoming the next epicenter with over 42,000 confirmed cases and the number is rising rapidly with a few thousand casing emerging everyday and the death count also climbing fast.
