US records highest single day death toll over 2,200 - total crosses 26,000

The US recorded the highest single day death toll over 2,200 while the total number of fatalities in the country surged past 26,000 which makes up over 20 percent of the global deaths due to coronavirus.

The US also has the highest number of coronavirus cases over 614,000 that makes up over 30 percent of the global cases and the country recorded over 20,000 new cases on Tuesday.

Although the US death toll in most places is being reported at just over 26,000 but the state of New York which is the worst affected city in the country by the coronavirus pandemic revised its death toll and included victims that died due to lung disease although never tested.

So the new number released by the New York City Health Department includes confirmed and probable cases noting an increase of 3,700 that brings the nationwide death toll to over 28,300 if those probable deaths are included. However, the official number still stands at over 26,000 since those deaths are not going to be included since the deceased were never tested.

Many other hot spots in the country reported spikes in the daily deaths on Tuesday and includes Louisiana and California despite the Trump Administration telling multiple times that the curve is flattening and the worse is over.

Millions in the country are now out of work and have applied for unemployement. President Trump in a White House briefing told the press that his team was close to completing a plan that would end the coronavirus shutdown and will restart the US economy in parts of the country before 1 May 2020.
