SHC rejects petition filed against restriction on congregational prayers

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) rejected a petition on Friday that was filed against the restriction on congregational prayers in mosques.

The petition was filed by Sumaira Mohammadi who stated that it is a violation of basic human rights and the government cannot stop public from attending congregational prayers at mosques.

The last hearing took take on Wednesday when Justice Mohammad Ali Azhar of the Sindh High Court (SHC) reserved the decision regarding the matter inquiring about the final decision by the federal and provincial governments of the matter of congregational prayers.

The hearing resumed today and the court was informed by deputy general Sindh about the meeting that is to be held on 18 April which is going to be attended by top religious scholars and President Arif Alvi where a decision will be taken on the matter of congregational prayers including Taraweeh prayers and Aitaqaf.

The Sindh High Court (SHC) rejected the petition saying that the government was placing restrictions for the safety of the public and the court could not interfere in the matter.
