Google, Facebook extend work from home plans till end of year

As coronavirus lockdown restrictions are graudually lifted, the two tech giants Google and Facebook have extended their work from home plans till the end of the year for employees who can carry out their duties remotely.

Google and Facebook both originally planned on opening offices in July as coronavirus lockdowns are gradually lifted. Alhtough offices for both companies will be opening, employees who can continue to carry out their duties remotely will be able to do so from home.

Google Chief Executive Sundar Pichai said that employees who need to return to the office will be able to do so from July as the company puts in more aggressive safety measures in place however, those who can continue their work from home and do so.

The same announcement was made by Facebook as a spokesperson said:

Facebook has taken the next step in its return to work philosophy. Today, we announced anyone who can do their work remotely can choose to do so through the end of the year,
As you can imagine this is an evolving situation as employees and their families make important decisions re: return to work.

The company however, is still determining which employees will be asked to come in as offices re-open. Facebook was one of the first tech firms to issue a work from home policy because of the coronavirus outbreak and even paid $1000 to its employees to cover any costs related to work from home.
