SpaceX capsule successfully completes docking with ISS

A SpaceX capsule has successfully completed docking with the International Space Station (ISS) a day after the historic launch with with two crew members in a spacecraft built and operated by a private company.

The whole approach of the Crew Dragon was live streamed by SpaceX and NASA on YouTube that showed the journey of the two astronauts Robert L. Behnken and Douglas G. Hurley on board the spacecraft.

Although most of the journey was automated, the two astronauts did take manual control firing thrusters to bring the spacecraft into position for the final steps before handing back control to the computer.

The SpaceX spacecraft successfully docked with the International Space Station (ISS) completing the first portion of the test flight with the crew aboard. Although, the mission / trip will only be considered a complete success once the astronauts make a return to Earth.

There were minor issues reported with one of the astronaut Bob Behnken’s space suit pressurization which is being investigated. Although according to reports, the suit had plenty of pressurization to remain safe, the flight control at SpaceX wanted to make sure there were no hardware issues that could be problematic in the futre.

The journey was 19 hours long after the launch from Kennedy Space Center in Florida which is the first launch in almost a decade from US soil carrying crew members to the ISS.

The capsule was launched on the Falcon 9 rocket, also built by SpaceX which was founded by Elon Musk, making it the first private company to take such steps and send actual astronauts to space.
