LAHORE: The Government of Punjab has decided to make teaching of the Holy Quran with translation mandatory in all universities across Punjab and no degree will be issued unless students undertake this course.
The decision has been taken by a committee constituted by the Governor of Punjab and Universities Chancellor Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar. A notification has already been issued in this regard by the office Governor Secretariat Punjab.
According to the notification it will be mandatory for the lecturers in all universities to teach students the Holy Quran with translation otherwise degrees will not be issued.
The mandatory Quran course is to be taught alongside the already compulsory Pakistan and Islamiyat Studies course and universities are required to make an effort to make sure that interest is generated in this mandatory course.
