ISLAMABAD: Senior journalist Matiullah Jan has returned home after 12 hours abduction according journalist Azaz Syed.
Matiullah Jan was abducted from outside of his wife’s school in G-6 area of Islamabad earlier in the day according to his family and a First Information Report (FIR) was filed at the Aabpara Police Station by his brother.
According to sources, Matiullah was blinfolded and taken to an unknown location later being driven around and dropped at Fateh Jang.
His disappearance sparked outrage on Twitter with fellow journalist claiming that he was taken by authorities without due process. However, there were also those who claimed that this was all an act so that he wouldn’t have to appear in scheduled court hearing.
Sceince and Technology Minister Fawad Chaudhry took to Twitter welcoming Jan back home.
Minister for Human Right Shireen Mazari also tweeted in this regard saying:
Glad to see Matiullah Jan free. Such actions are in violation of our Constitution & our international obligations under HR conventions Pak ratified. Citizens cannot live in a constant state of fear and due legal process is the right of all citizens in any democracy.
