TikTok, books do not threaten Islam: Fawad Chaudhry

TikTok and books do not threaten Islam, says Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry in a recent tweet where he shared his views on the current banning trending in Punjab.

According to Fawad Chaudhry, there has been a recent trend in Punjab where members of parliament are coming up with a new motion everyday and justify it by saying that if the recommended course of action isn’t taken then Islam is is danger.

The Federal Minister called this a dangerous attitude saying that these members will sink into the whirlpool of sectarian and religious extremism if they continue like this.

He further mentions in a follow up Tweet that TikTok and books do not threaten Islam but rather this sectarian division and extremism which is being created in the country.

He specifically mentions this because of the recent bans being placed on internet apps and book in Punjab. The Punjab Assembly on Wednesday passed a Tahaffyz-e-Bunyad-e-Islam Bill 2020 giving the Directorate General Public Relations (DGPR) power to visit and inspect any printing press, book store or publication house and confiscate any book before or after printing.

Previously the Science and Technology Minister opposed the banning on internet apps saying that Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and courts should stop this banning approach they have adopted against internet apps calling on PTA to stop moral policing of the public.
