Karachi rain disrupts life as urban flooding continues

Karachi rain has disrupted life in the port city as heavy showers cause urban flooding despite The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicting the monsoon rain system being weakened.

According to the Met Department, the monsoon rain system had weakened and it would provide relief to the city however, a new weather alert was issued predicting Karachi rain continue till 11:00pm tonight.

The heavy torrential rain has flooded major roads across the metropolis while major underpasses across Karachi have been closed for traffic after being flooded.

Some people on Twitter are sharing videos of MA Jinnah Road showing containers floating on the road that were placed for security purpose for upcoming processions.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Haider Zaidi also shared update regarding the situation of DHA Phase 6 which is completely flooded and causing disruption for residents.

Major areas of the metropolis are experiencing power outages due to damaged wires and flooded infrastructure and according to K Electric, their teams are working tirelessly to restore power to affected areas.

PM Imran Khan monitoring Karachi rain situation

According to Governor Sindh Imran Ismail, the situation in Karachi resulting from heavy torrential rains is being monitored by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Ismail in a Tweet stated:

Briefed PM @ImranKhanPTI over Sindh rain situation, Karachi needs special attention. This is unusual and abnormal rain situation which requires emergency response. PM is monitoring the situation and assured to take any action required.

Meanwhile, Bilal Bhutto Zardari also took to Twitter asking everyone to keep those people in their thoughts who have been working hard round the clock to provide relief.
