Hub Dam overflows, settlements below evacuated

The water level of the Hub Dam has crossed the 339-foot mark on Thursday filling to its maximum capacity for the first time in 13 years due to the recent monsoon rain spells in Karachi.

The water from the Hub Dam has now begun flowing out of the spillways into the sea near Mubarak Village while all settlements below the dam have been evacuated in case of emergency.

The dam has been closed off to visitors by WAPDA administration however, residents of nearby settlements and even people from Karachi have traveled to witness the streams overflowing from spillways which travel about 60km through the Hub River and falls into the sea.

According to WAPDA officials, more rainwater relays are reaching the Dam from catchment area which strethces up to the mountain range of Balochistan.

In order to deal with the emergency situation, officials from Hub Dam Management Agency, WAPDA and irrigation officials are present on site.
