LAHORE: Twelve suspects have been arrested by the police in Lahore motorway gang rape incident near Gujjarpura according to the Punjab government spokesperson Mussarat Cheema.
According to the spokesperson, Punjab Police and allied departments are working in close coordination to find the culprits responsible behind the incident involving a woman being gang raped at Lahore motorway near Gujjarpura in front of her children.
The investigation is being led by the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore on the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab according to Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Political Communication Dr Shahbaz Gill.
Dr Shahbaz Gill further states that urban and rural policing techniques are being used in the investigation which is being carried out with help of detectives, CCTV footage and DNA reports.
According to reports, 20 teams of Lahore police and CIA have been constituted to catch the culprits responsible and no stone will be left unturned until justice is provided.
The Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari also tweeted informing that the ministry has received updated reports and copy of the First Information Report (FIR) regarding the Lahore motorway gang rape incident.
Furthermore, the Human Rights Minister condemned the statement of CCPO Lahore Umar Sheikh blaming the woman for being gang raped. According to a Tweet by Shireen Mazari, the police officer questioned as to why the victim was out at night with her children.
Twitter is currently trending demanding that CCPO Lahore be removed from his post immediately over his remarks.
Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar also took notice of the Lahore motorway gang rape incident and promised that justice will be provided.
In the latest tweet by CM Buzdar, he has promised justice for the victim of the motorway rape incident and stated that the culprits will face severe punishment.
Lahore Motorway Gang Rape Incident
A woman was gang raped at Lahore Motorway near Gujjarpura in front of her children by unidentified assailants who then robbed her of her valuables including Rs. 100,000 cash and fled the scene.
According to reports, the woman was traveling with her children when her car ran out of fuel around 1:30AM early Wednesday stranding her on the road.
While being stuck on the road, the woman also reportedly called motorway police but was refused assistance by the operator who told her “that emergency beat had not been assigned to anyone”.
The woman was sitting her the car at Lahore motorway with her children waiting for help when she was spotted by the identified persons who broke her car window and forced her out of the vehicle taking her to a nearby field where she was gang raped her.
