The 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards was aired on Sunday, September 22.
The Creative Arts Emmys honor technical achievements such as editing, sound mixing, cinematography, casting, visual effects, stunts, makeup and more. But the big events are the awards for Guest Acting.
The first big award of the night went to Melissa Leo for her guest performance in FX’s Louie, besting two Saturday Night Live hosts (Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig) as well as 30 Rock‘s Elaine Stritch. For Guest Actor in a Comedy, legend Bob Newhart won his first ever Emmy for The Big Bang Theory.
For Drama, Dan Bucatinsky won for Scandal, beating such high-profile stars as Michael J. Fox for The Good Wife and Harry Hamlin for Mad Men. And despite the domination of cable dramas, Carrie Preston won the Guest Actress Emmy for The Good Wife.
