Making a mockery of the cyber security of the Punjab government, a group calling itself ‘Pakistan Cyber Attackers’ has allegedly hacked the website of the Punjab Vigilance Bureau, the agency that probes corruption cases.

The hacker has posted that the website is ‘owned by Kashif haxOr” and also taunted the website host, Punjab government, saying, ‘You r mad….See u later…LOL’. The hacker has also posted a hyperlink that takes the user to the Facebook page of one Kashif Hussain, that says he has finally hacked the Indian website. The hacker has not revealed his motive in doing so.

The website was launched by deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal in 2012. It has a unique facility for uploading audio and video footage and photos along with online complaints. The facility was created to help the public videotape and photograph any corrupt activities undertaken by public servants and upload these onto the vigilance bureau’s website.

It also has important data of proclaimed offenders and contact numbers of various vigilance bureau officials. As directed by the government, every state government website provides a link to the vigilance bureau website.

It’s not the first such case as earlier also, Pakistan-based hackers have hacked Indian websites. In 2010, a hacker group, Pakistan Cyber Army, had hacked the website of premier Indian investigation agency, Central Bureau of Investigation.

DGP-cum-chief director vigilance Suresh Arora, when contacted, said he was seized of the matter. “The hackers did it last week. We have sounded the intelligence agencies and cyber experts to track down the hackers,” he said. Arora said the website had no sensitive data. However, as it was one of the main interfaces to get feedback from people and share information, he had directed the officials to restore it at the earliest.

Farhan Abro

Hello! My name is Farhan Abro, and I'm based here in Islamabad. My journey in Pakistan's digital media really kicked off when I founded INCPak back in 2012. We built it from the ground up, driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, to be a trusted voice for independent journalism. But while media is a big part of who I am, I'm also shaped by a fascinating mix of other passions. I'm deeply into automotive, which gives me a technical edge, but I also find my artistic expression through landscape photography and music. And I'm always diving into the exciting world of Artificial Intelligence. Bringing all these different worlds together the technical, the creative, the journalistic, and the entrepreneurial—it really colors how I see things and approach every project. It gives me a distinct perspective that I try to bring to everything I share
